Louis XIV of France was born in 1638. He was the son of Louis XIII, the French King, and his wife Queen Anne. When he was five years old his father died and he became the new king. In 1648, the merchants of Paris started a rebellion against him. All the Royal Family was forced to escape from the city and took refuge in the countryside. Within a year the uprising was over, but then the noblemen went to a Civil War that lasted three years. These conflicts marked young Louis profundly and taught him that he should never trust anyone. When he was twenty years old, he took the control of the government personally, formulating a new political idea known as Absolutism. It consisted in the fact that the Kings had a God-given right to rule, and that no man had the right to question his autorithy. This political doctrine had serious consequences for France, because it was one of the major causes of the French Revolution nealy one hundred years later. Louis died at age 77, but his descendants would pay the consequences of his actions.
